Ukraine military to withdraw from Vuhledar after 2 years of fighting

After more than two years of intense fighting, Ukrainian forces are withdrawing from the strategically important town of Vuhledar in eastern Ukraine. This marks another victory for Russian forces as the war in the region enters its third year.

The town of Vuhledar, located on a significant hill, was fiercely defended by Ukrainian forces, but ultimately fell to the advancing Russian army. This comes after a brutal summer campaign along the eastern front, where Kyiv lost thousands of square kilometers of territory to Russian forces.

The Khortytsia ground forces formation, responsible for the Donetsk region, announced the withdrawal of troops from Vuhledar in order to protect personnel and equipment. The tactical significance of the town, with its strategic location at the convergence of major roads, provides Moscow with advantages in logistics and military operations.

The capture of Vuhledar brings Russian forces one step closer to the key logistics hub of Pokrovsk, further strengthening their position in the region.
