Uganda releases 4 South Sudan troops after negotiations

SSPDF recently announced the release of three army officers who were detained by UPDF at the border in Magwi County. After three months of detention, a meeting in Kampala between the chief of SSPDF and UPDF led to their release. The discussions also resulted in the release of another officer detained by the Uganda Revenue Authority.

The agreement includes a commitment to stop further encroachment into South Sudan by UPDF and aims to boost peace along the border through collaboration on border demarcation. The military leaders emphasized the importance of regional peace and security, and plans are in place to deploy more forces along the Juba-Nimule Highway to protect civilians.

The meeting also focused on promoting trade and fostering harmonious relations along the border, highlighting a commitment to stability and cooperation between the two nations. With recent border skirmishes underscoring the need for ongoing dialogue, the agreement sets the stage for continued collaboration to maintain peace in the region.
