Tata, the Indian industrial giant, has made a groundbreaking move by signing a strategic agreement with Morocco to produce WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles in Casablanca. This marks Tata’s first overseas manufacturing plant for military vehicles and aims to supply the Moroccan Armed Forces and other African armies.
With Tata Advanced Systems overseeing the project and the establishment of “Tata Advanced Systems Maroc” (TASM), the new facility is expected to produce 100 units annually. The partnership strengthens defense cooperation between Morocco and India and supports Morocco’s goal of self-sufficiency in defense equipment.
The project will create around 350 jobs, with local integration initially at 35% and rising to 50% over 36 months. This move not only supports Morocco’s industrial ecosystem and job creation efforts but also helps India expand its defense presence in Africa.
In addition, the WhAP 8×8 armored vehicle is a versatile platform developed in India, used by the Indian Army, and deployed in the Ladakh border region. This agreement signifies a mutual ambition to promote South-South cooperation in defense manufacturing and positions Morocco as an emerging player in the defense industry while providing Tata with a strategic entry point into the growing African market.
