Peru’s Air Force Set to Acquire New Fighter Jets
Peruvian Defense Minister, Walter Enrique Astudillo Chávez, confirmed the decision to purchase 24 new fighter jets for the Air Force. This initiative is seen as a historic step towards strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, with options including Lockheed Martin, Saab, and Dassault aircraft.
The government is negotiating a 7.58 billion soles loan for Phase I of the project, which includes acquiring 12 fighter-bombers. This investment will not only enhance Peru’s military prowess but also focus on technological advancements in collaboration with Korean Aerospace Industries.
In addition to the fighter jets, Peru plans to acquire multi-mission transport aircraft and Boeing cargo planes. These purchases signify a significant shift towards modernizing the Air Force’s fleet and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
