MP Samira al-Gazar recently brought attention to the severe neglect plaguing Egypt’s health sector, with statistics highlighting the country’s high rates of diabetes and kidney failure. She emphasized the dire lack of essential medical supplies, staff, and equipment in hospitals across various regions, leading to detrimental consequences for patients.
Al-Gazar urged the Prime Minister and Health Minister to take immediate action, emphasizing the scarcity of insulin and cancer drugs, which are essential for numerous patients. She also criticized the exorbitant prices set by private hospitals, turning healthcare into a profit-driven industry.
The MP proposed a series of solutions to address these issues, including producing active ingredients locally, ensuring the availability of crucial medications, improving hospital hygiene, and regulating surgical procedure costs. She called for enhanced dialysis services, intensive care beds, and a crackdown on exploitative practices within the healthcare system.
Al-Gazar’s demands were forwarded to the parliamentary health committee for further deliberation, highlighting the pressing need for comprehensive reforms in Egypt’s healthcare sector.
