Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis unveiled a development and reconstruction plan for the Evros region in northeastern Greece in response to a devastating wildfire. The plan includes 19 measures aimed at boosting employment and entrepreneurship and encouraging residents to stay or return to the area. The government has allocated over 2.83 billion euros for the region with a target horizon of 2030, seeking additional funding from the EU.

Mitsotakis reassured the local community, expressing optimism and support for citizens protecting Greece’s eastern borders. The 2023 wildfire in Evros resulted in significant loss of life and destruction, underscoring the need for sustainable development in the region.
