The Maldives officially joined the genocide case against Israel by submitting a declaration to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Israel of carrying out massacres in Gaza. President Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the importance of holding Israel accountable for its actions in Gaza and standing with humanity, peace, and justice.
In a tweet, Muizzu stated that Israel must be held responsible for its unlawful acts in Gaza. He also called for the recognition of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The case was filed by South Africa in late 2023, alleging that Israel violated the 1948 Genocide Convention. The ICJ ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Gaza, with multiple countries, including Türkiye, Nicaragua, and Spain, joining the case. The court initiated public hearings in January to address the ongoing conflict and casualties in Gaza.
