Recently, shocking news has emerged of a warning from Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah to flee Lebanon days before Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli strike. The reason? Khamenei was deeply concerned about Israeli infiltration of senior government ranks in Tehran, according to three Iranian sources.
Following the attack on Hezbollah’s booby-trapped pagers on Sept. 17, Khamenei urgently sent a message with an envoy to urge Nasrallah to leave for Iran. Intelligence reports suggested that Israel had operatives within Hezbollah and was planning to kill him. The messenger, identified as senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan, tragically perished alongside Nasrallah in his bunker during the Israeli bombing.
This development has raised serious concerns about the extent of Israeli influence in Iran and the security of top officials within Hezbollah. It is a situation that underscores the volatile and complex geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
