Kasselakis uses social media to gather support for SYRIZA congress.

In a bold move to recapture leadership in the leftist opposition, former SYRIZA president Stefanos Kasselakis urged his followers to register as party members to vote for delegates prior to the upcoming congress. The congress, set for November 1-3, could reverse the central committee’s decision to remove Kasselakis as party leader through a motion of no confidence.

In a passionate video shared on social media, Kasselakis stated, “The government is crumbling. In its place, either a center-left entity will emerge, serving corruption interests, or our own SYRIZA will rise – a renewed, honest, and clean party of the modern Left.”

If the congress upholds Kasselakis removal, formal candidates will be confirmed for the leadership elections on November 24, with a runoff on December 1. Other contenders include former minister Pavlos Polakis, MP Sokratis Famellos, MEP Nikolas Farantouris, and former Stylida mayor.
