Residents in Beirut reported a sulfur-like smell following Israeli strikes, as Lebanon’s National News Agency accused Israel of using phosphorous bombs. A Lebanese soldier was killed and four Red Cross volunteers were wounded in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon. Another attack in central Beirut killed seven civil defence rescue workers with no prior warning. Human rights groups have accused Israel of using white phosphorus incendiary shells in the past.
Amidst the escalating conflict, foreign countries are evacuating their nationals from Lebanon. Britain is chartering flights to evacuate citizens, while France has sent military assistance to the region. Russia has started evacuating its citizens, and Spain plans to evacuate around 350 people from Beirut. The UNHCR reported around 100,000 people fleeing to Syria from Lebanon due to Israeli airstrikes, with most evacuees being women and children.
The situation remains dire as clashes continue, with potential broadening of Israeli invasion into southern Lebanon. As tensions escalate, the safety and well-being of civilians in the region remain a top priority for international efforts to provide support and aid.
