Japan’s new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasized the importance of cooperation among the Group of Seven countries in addressing security issues in the Middle East, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific region. In his first call with G7 leaders, Ishiba urged all parties to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalating tensions to prevent a full-scale war.
He specifically referred to the situation in the Middle East following Iran’s missile attack on Israel. Ishiba stated that Japan will utilize diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
In response to Iran’s attack, U.S. President Joe Biden and the G7 leaders condemned the actions and reiterated their commitment to Israel’s security. Biden announced that additional sanctions would be imposed on Iran but emphasized the need for Israel to respond proportionately.
The G7 leaders agreed that while Israel has the right to defend itself, any response should be measured. Ishiba’s stance on diplomatic resolutions and avoiding military escalation highlights Japan’s commitment to promoting peace and maintaining stability in the region.
