IPAC supports transparent LG polls in Rivers State

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) of Nigeria, representing all registered political parties, has pledged to uphold democratic values ahead of the Local Government elections in Rivers State on October 5, 2024. The council emphasized the importance of unity in fostering sustainable democracy and development, vowing to resist any attempts to undermine the country’s democratic progress.

During a press briefing in Abuja, the National Chairman of IPAC, Yusuf Dantalle, encouraged the people of Rivers State to actively participate by voting for their preferred candidates. IPAC also called on the Inspector-General of Police and security agencies to ensure adequate security for the upcoming elections.

IPAC condemned the high nomination fees and sudden changes in electoral laws meant to exclude credible aspirants and manipulate the electoral process. The council stressed the need for a level playing field for all parties and candidates to ensure electoral integrity.

Furthermore, IPAC announced plans to host a roundtable discussion with stakeholders regarding the judiciary’s role in democracy and the importance of accountability among judicial officers. The council remains committed to fostering sustainable democracy and supporting local government elections as a crucial aspect of representative governance.
