Fazl asserts no cooperation with govt on Constitutional Package at any cost: Pakistan

JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Rejects Rushed Constitutional Package

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman made it clear that he will not cooperate with the federal government on the Constitutional Package, emphasizing the need for consensus on any amendments. He expressed concerns about rushing through amendments that could potentially cause political unrest in the country.

The Supreme Court’s recent decision to accept a review petition related to the defection clause under Article 63-A could provide relief to the government in their pursuit of constitutional amendments, including those regarding the judiciary. Fazl hinted at supporting certain proposals but stressed the importance of political parties reaching a consensus.

Questioning the government’s urgency, Fazl highlighted the historical precedent of constitutional amendments taking time to pass, citing the example of the 18th Amendment which took nine months. He urged the government to postpone the amendment and prioritize resolving political differences.
