Fatalities reported as strange Typhoon Krathon hits southwestern Taiwan

As storm batters island, soldiers in south mobilised to help battle electrical fire in hospital that killed nine.

Tragedy struck as Typhoon Krathon hit southwestern Taiwan, claiming two lives and bringing the island to a standstill. Despite being categorized as a weaker storm, Krathon unleashed powerful winds and record-breaking gusts that reached over 220kmph in the major port city of Kaohsiung.

As the typhoon swept across Taiwan, claiming two lives due to falling trees and rocks, more than 100,000 homes were left without power and all domestic and international flights were canceled for a second day.

In a separate incident, a devastating electrical fire in a hospital in Pingtung led to the tragic death of nine individuals. Soldiers were swiftly mobilized to assist in evacuating patients and extinguishing the flames.

Considered a “weird” storm for its direct impact on the west coast, Krathon has brought relentless rain and destruction to various parts of the island. Despite the challenges posed by the slow-moving typhoon, Taiwan remains vigilant in its storm preparations to prevent further casualties and damage.
