Mozambique is facing significant challenges as it gears up for the general elections on October 9, 2024. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) is struggling with financial constraints, hindering its operations nationwide.
The lack of funds is impacting the transportation of electoral staff and materials, jeopardizing election readiness. The CNE spokesperson highlighted the urgent need for air transport to facilitate the movement of agents and sensitive materials before voting day.
With 184,310 agents being trained to staff 26,330 polling stations, concerns are arising about the impartiality of the process, with reports suggesting possible bias in the selection of trainers. The opposition party’s appointed CNE vice president expressed frustration over financial mismanagement, further fueling political tensions.

Despite these challenges, CNE President Carlos Matsinhe assured that elections would proceed smoothly. However, delays in funding distribution to election contestants have raised concerns among opposition parties, accusing the CNE of favoritism towards the ruling party.
