US aims to restrain Israel’s robust retaliation against Iran

Reports suggest that the US is advising Israel against a strong retaliation to Iran’s missile strikes on Tuesday night. The Biden administration highlighted that US and Israeli defense systems successfully countered Tehran’s attack, urging Israel to exercise restraint in their response.

Despite the recommendation, Israel is expected to deliver a larger-scale retaliation compared to April, raising concerns of escalating tensions. Iran’s missile assault was in retaliation for various incidents including the assassination of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, as well as conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.

Although casualties were minimal, Israel is likely to respond aggressively this time. Experts doubt the US’s ability to persuade Israel to temper its retaliation. Analyst Jonathan Panikoff warned that achieving a ceasefire in the region is challenging.

Speculation arises about Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear and oil facilities, potentially triggering further conflict. The US has vowed repercussions for Iran regardless of Israel’s response. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Iran would face consequences.

Former PM Naftali Bennet on social media hinted at a significant Israeli response, emphasizing the opportunity to reshape the Middle East. The situation remains tense, with uncertainties around the extent of Israel’s retaliation and the broader implications of Iran’s actions.
