Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations to Attend COP29 Events in Azerbaijan
Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, is set to travel to Azerbaijan to participate in COP29 related events. The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, announced her itinerary, stating that she will be attending the pre-COP29 meeting to prepare for the upcoming Conference of Parties on the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
During her visit, Mohammed will engage with various member state delegations and hold discussions with senior government officials of Azerbaijan regarding COP negotiations. The PreCOP event in Azerbaijan is scheduled for October 10-11, leading up to COP29 in November. With Baku as the host city, an influx of 70,000-80,000 foreign guests is anticipated within two weeks, making it a global focal point for climate action.
