Ukraine Admits Russia’s Control Over Vuhledar
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have officially authorized the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, acknowledging Russia’s control over the strategically important city. Russian forces managed to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses, leading to the city’s capture and the raising of Russian flags in the center of Vuhledar.
“In an attempt to take control of the city at any cost, [the Russian military] managed to send reserves to carry out flank attacks, which exhausted the defense of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” representatives of the Khortytsia group said.
The loss of Vuhledar may put greater pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as Russia gains a more advantageous position in terms of logistics. Kyiv is struggling to contain the Russian offensive, and Zelensky’s “victory plan” has not received much enthusiasm.
