UK families say Lebanon attack shifts focus from Gaza captives

Families of captives with British links held by Hamas in Gaza expressed concerns that Israel’s invasion of Lebanon could divert attention from efforts to secure the release of their loved ones. Sharone Lifschitz, whose father remains in captivity, emphasized the importance of keeping the focus on the hostages still held in Gaza amidst the escalating conflict.

While the military offensive in Gaza has resulted in substantial casualties, including civilians, the families of the captives feel there has been a lack of progress in securing their relatives’ release. Steve Brisley, whose brother-in-law is among the captives, highlighted the need for a new diplomatic approach to end the crisis and bring the captives home.

Despite facing criticism for allegedly prioritizing political motives over hostage release, Netanyahu’s government has been urged by UK officials to prioritize the safe return of the captives. The families also received messages of support from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, underscoring the international concern for their plight.
