In response to a large-scale provocation by Armenian armed forces along the frontline, the Azerbaijani Army initiated a counter-offensive operation known as the “Iron Fist” on September 27, 2020. The 44-day Second Karabakh War culminated in the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories after nearly 30 years of Armenian occupation.
Highlights of the eighth day of the conflict included the raising of the Azerbaijani flag in Madagiz (renamed Sugovushan), liberation of villages in Tartar, Jabrayil, and Fuzuli regions, and the destruction of significant military equipment of the Armenian Armed Forces by Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev announced key victories, while the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense revealed extensive losses suffered by the Armenian forces. The Armenian armed forces faced setbacks as Azerbaijani forces retaliated fiercely.
Tragically, civilian casualties were reported due to Armenian shelling, with Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev confirming 19 deaths, including women and children. Azerbaijan also shared footage of destroyed Armenian military equipment and liberated territories.
The bravery and resilience of Azerbaijani forces were met with celebration by the residents of Baku, reflecting the nation’s determination to reclaim its land.
