South Sudan Red Cross recently provided cash assistance to over 1,000 households of returnees from Sudan in the Ruweng Administrative Area. This support aimed to help those who were displaced by the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which started on April 15, 2023, resulting in loss of lives and displacement of many civilians.
One of the beneficiaries, Mary Achol, received 340,000 SSP and plans to use it for family expenses, as there is no government support. She also intends to start a small business for future sustainability. Similarly, Mose Deng expressed his gratitude for the money, as it will enable him to start a business and grow it over time.
The cash distribution was facilitated by Bentiu Red Cross, in collaboration with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The process began with the registration of returnees to ensure efficient support delivery. This initiative, known as Population Movement, provides crucial aid to those in need during challenging times.
