Lula’s Eventful Return to Brasilia
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva returned to Brasilia after a botched flight led to an emergency landing in Mexico City. Lula criticized the Israeli government’s actions in the Middle East and expressed disappointment in the UN Security Council’s inaction.
Lula’s orders for a FAB mission to rescue Brazilians in Lebanon were confirmed, with a KC-30 aircraft set to depart Thursday. Brazilian nationals in Lebanon will receive medical and psychological support as Israeli forces target Hezbollah.
Brazil’s Foreign Ministry is coordinating efforts for the mission, following the deaths of two Brazilian teenagers in Israeli bombings in Lebanon. The Brazilian community in Lebanon is the largest in the Middle East, with 21,000 Brazilian residents.
