Kenya Wildlife Service recently revealed its strategic plan for 2024-2028, aimed at ramping up wildlife conservation efforts in the country. Addressing the press in Nairobi, Rebecca Miano, the cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, emphasized the plan’s scientific and data-driven approach.
The plan focuses on boosting the wildlife economy, reducing biodiversity loss, enhancing community engagement, and ensuring equitable distribution of benefits from conservation. Miano highlighted the goal of making Kenya a global leader in sustainable tourism by leveraging the wildlife economy for economic growth and empowering local communities.
Furthermore, Silvia Museiya, the principal secretary of the State Department for Wildlife, reiterated the plan’s objectives of addressing biodiversity loss, involving communities in conservation efforts, and ensuring shared benefits for all Kenyans. The government is committed to implementing science-based strategies to increase wildlife populations and protect critical ecosystems.
