Japan closes regional airport after suspected WWII bomb explosion near runway
Japan had a scare when a US bomb, likely from World War Two, exploded near the runway of Miyazaki Airport. The explosion left a seven-meter-wide crater, resulting in the closure of the airport and canceling nearly 90 flights. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

Despite the disruption, the airport authorities assured that there is no danger of further explosions and repairs will be completed soon. The affected flights connect Miyazaki with major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

Miyazaki Airport’s history as a former Japanese navy base adds a poignant backdrop to this incident, reminding of the sacrifices made during World War Two.
