German’s Scholz warns of risking ‘Region on Fire’

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has issued a stark warning about the escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s missile attack on Israel. In a statement released on Wednesday, Scholz emphasized the need to prevent Iran from igniting the entire region.

Scholz credited Israel’s air defenses and allies for largely repelling the Iranian attack, but called on Hezbollah and Tehran to immediately cease their attacks. The German government is committed to working with partners to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

According to Scholz, a ceasefire is crucial for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which demands Hezbollah’s withdrawal from the border area with Israel. This move would not only allow for the return of residents to northern Israel but also strengthen Lebanese statehood.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, Scholz’s plea for peace and diplomacy serves as a reminder of the urgent need for dialogue and cooperation to avert further conflict.
