Surviving the War in Gaza: A Story of Hope and Healing

In the heart of Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighborhood, life moves forward amidst sunshine and scattered clouds typical of September. Amongst the graffiti that reads “Free Gaza” in Viktoria Park, one man, Abed Hassan, carries the weight of the ongoing war in Gaza with him.

Israeli airstrikes hit a supposed “safe zone” in Al-Mawasi refugee camp, causing chaos. Abed receives updates from Gaza, his cousins sending messages whenever they can. He feels the constant presence of death and destruction.

Trapped in the war a year ago, Abed escaped to Berlin but now feels a sense of helplessness. He shares his experiences from Gaza on Instagram, earning the title of the “German voice from Gaza.”

Abed’s journey of healing takes him on a cycling tour through Europe, sharing stories of survival from Bosnia to raise funds for a Gaza hospital. However, his journey is cut short as he is denied entry to the West Bank by Israeli soldiers.

Despite the challenges, Abed continues to strive for understanding and peace, hoping for a brighter future for all those affected by the war in Gaza.
