Emfuleni Municipality Struggles to Pay Workers Due to Eskom Bank Account Attachments

The Emfuleni municipality is currently facing challenges in providing essential services such as water, electricity, and waste management to its residents. The mayor, Sangweni, attributed the poor service delivery to residents’ failure to pay for these services.

Sangweni emphasized the importance of residents playing their civic role by supporting the municipality through payment for services. Despite high unemployment rates, some community members are able to pay but choose not to. This lack of payment hinders the municipality’s ability to deliver services efficiently.

The municipality is working closely with the provincial and national government to address these challenges and improve service delivery. However, the EFF in Gauteng has raised concerns about the municipality’s failure to pay salaries, citing administrative and political incompetence and corruption within the ANC government.

EFF provincial chairperson, Nkululeko Dunga, expressed a lack of confidence in the current administration’s ability to turnaround the situation, calling on Sedibeng residents to hold the government accountable and demand change.
