The Punjab government kick-starts cheque distribution for ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ scheme
The Punjab government has initiated the distribution of cheques among eligible families to build their houses under the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program. PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz graced the cheque distribution ceremony as chief guests. With around 500,000 applications received, the scheme aims to provide interest-free loans of up to Rs 1.5 million, with monthly repayments of Rs. 14,000 for nine years.
Maryam Nawaz announced that through monthly draws, 100,000 people would benefit from the program each year. The initiative marks the country’s first major interest-free housing project, offering loans for houses in rural and urban areas, as well as the construction of flats in major cities through lottery systems. Private housing schemes will also provide homes with government subsidies of up to PKR 1 million per house.
