Israeli Army Imposes Curfew in Hebron Ahead of Jewish Holidays

The Israeli army imposed a curfew in several Palestinian neighborhoods in central Hebron, West Bank, until Sunday, in preparation for the Jewish holidays. The Hebron Defense Committee reported that the curfew was enforced, restricting movement and forcing shops to close. Only those returning from work were allowed to reach their homes. The army informed residents that the curfew would last until next Sunday due to the holidays.

Recent days have seen an escalation of assaults by Israeli soldiers in Hebron, with raids on homes, detentions, and confiscation of phones. The siege on Palestinian neighborhoods began during the war on Gaza in 2023, resulting in frequent curfews and travel restrictions.

As Israel celebrates Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, settler activity has increased in Hebron and at the Ibrahimi Mosque. The mosque, divided between Jewish and Muslim worshipers since 1994, marks the start of Hebrew year 5785 with the upcoming “10 Days of Repentance.”
