The Sudanese army remains unwavering in its offensive amidst international efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in the ongoing civil war. Assistant Commander-in-Chief Lt Gen Ibrahim Gabir asserts that peace talks will not hinder their operations to reclaim control of Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces. The conflict, which began in April last year, has led to a humanitarian crisis with millions displaced and facing hunger.
Gen Gabir refuted allegations of famine in the country, blaming the RSF for obstructing aid access. The army’s focus on Darfur border with Chad is fueled by suspicions of weapons and mercenaries influx from the UAE. Despite accusations of war crimes, the general maintained that the army’s actions were carried out by individuals, not the entire force.
The war’s duration remains uncertain, with similarities drawn to America’s extended conflict in Afghanistan. However, the Sudan War Monitor emphasizes the complexity of the conflict stemming from the country’s size and the strength of the warring factions. Despite the challenges, Gen Gabir remains optimistic about Sudan’s future, stating that the country will prevail and undergo reconstruction.
