Armenians back Government’s peace and democratization efforts – FM Mirzoyan

In a recent discussion at the Warsaw Security Forum, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the internal crises that arose in Armenia after the war in 2020. Mirzoyan emphasized the need for snap parliamentary elections to address the situation.

The roots of the issue can be traced back to 2020 when Azerbaijan initiated an attack on Nagorno Karabakh, leading to Azerbaijani forces invading sovereign territories of Armenia in 2023. This raised questions about the efficacy of democracy in ensuring security.

Following the crisis, snap parliamentary elections were held in 2021, with democracy being a central theme of the electoral campaign. Mirzoyan’s political party, advocating for democracy, emerged victorious, indicating strong support for the peace agenda and further democratization in Armenia.

The election outcome reflected the citizens’ endorsement of both the government’s efforts towards peace and the progress of democratization in the country.
