Tragic Revenge Attacks Shake Warrap State, Leaving 20 Dead and 37 Injured
In a series of tragic events, the authorities of Warrap State have confirmed that at least 20 people were killed and 37 others sustained bullet wounds in two separate revenge attacks in Tonj North County’s Alabek Payam on 28 and 29 September 2024.
The clashes, fueled by revenge killings among rival clans, resulted in running battles across four bomas in Alabek Payam. The violence was sparked by a cycle of vengeance that culminated in a deadly confrontation between the Pan Kuei and Pan Arek clans.
Tonj North County Acting Commissioner Daniel Managar revealed the devastating toll of the conflict, with 16 people killed and 23 wounded from the Pan Kuei Section alone. Despite the high casualties, the wounded have not been transported to hospitals due to ongoing tensions and logistical challenges posed by flooding and poor road conditions.
As efforts to restore peace continue, state legislator Atek Monydhar Atek has issued a plea for assistance from organizations like the Red Cross to aid the injured, as government health facilities face a shortage of medical supplies.
