K-pop Fans Bombard Korean Politicians with Faxes Demanding Accountability

K-pop girl group New Jeans fans have taken to sending faxes and texts to Korean lawmakers urging them to call in Hybe Entertainment executives, including Bang Si-hyuk, for questioning. This comes after allegations of mistreatment within the group, leading to member Hanii being called as a witness in parliamentary hearings.

Lawmakers have reported being inundated with requests to bring Hybe officials in for questioning, with some even expressing concerns about their phones being overwhelmed. Fans have also flooded lawmakers’ offices with faxes, demanding action to address the alleged mistreatment of Hanii and escalating corporate disputes within Hybe.

While the Labor and Environment Committee has already called Hanii to testify, there are worries within the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee about the potential negative impacts on the K-pop industry if the issue is escalated further. Despite this, there may be further discussions on additional witnesses during upcoming parliamentary sessions.

Overall, fans are advocating for accountability and protection of idol rights, even as officials navigate the delicate balance between industry integrity and fan demands.
