Chinese leader Xi Jinping reaffirmed his commitment to achieving reunification with Taiwan as Communist China celebrated its 75th birthday, showcasing military power ahead of the national holiday.
During a state banquet marking the People’s Republic’s founding, Xi emphasized the imperative of complete reunification, stating it as an irreversible trend and common aspiration.
The Communist Party regards Taiwan as its territory and aims to reunify, despite resistance from the self-governing democracy which asserts its Taiwanese identity.
Since the Chinese civil war in 1949, Taiwan and mainland China have operated independently, with tensions escalating under Xi’s aggressive stance towards Taiwan.
The recent military maneuvers by China, including missile firings, have raised concerns globally, prompting the US to approve a substantial military aid package for Taiwan.
