In response to Israel’s ground incursion in southern Lebanon, the United States is sending additional troops and fighter planes to the Middle East. With about 40,000 troops already in the region, the Pentagon is increasing its presence to 43,000 to protect American forces and potentially defend Israel. The current U.S. distribution in the Middle East includes military personnel stationed in various locations, warships like the aircraft carriers Abraham Lincoln and Harry Truman, as well as submarines and aircraft squadrons. The Pentagon’s strategy aims to deter conflicts, protect deployed forces, and support allies like Israel.
