Ukrainian defense minister fires deputies – RT Russia & Former Soviet Union

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustam Umerov has taken decisive action by dismissing four of his deputies due to unacceptable attempts of influence on his department. This move comes amidst rumors of potential conflict between Umerov and Andrey Yermak, head of the presidential administration.

Umerov emphasized the need for the Defense Ministry to operate without external interference, describing it as a closed perimeter. The officials dismissed include Stanislav Gayder, Aleksandr Sergiy, Yury Dzhigir, and Lydmila Daragan, each with unique backgrounds and roles within the ministry.

Alongside these personnel changes, Umerov announced reforms within state-owned companies responsible for international arms trade, as well as logistics and procurement departments within the ministry. This overhaul aims to address tensions between key military officials and rumors of power struggles within the Ukrainian government.

Previously, Umerov succeeded Aleksey Reznikov as defense minister in the wake of a failed military offensive against Russia. The recent visit of President Vladimir Zelensky to the US to discuss his ‘victory plan’ against Russia has garnered mixed reactions, with no major policy changes announced.
