U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed support to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for taking action to “dismantle attack infrastructure” along the Lebanese border. This comes after Israel conducted targeted ground raids on Hezbollah.
Austin stated, “I reiterated the United States’ backing for Israel’s right to self-defense. We both agreed on the importance of dismantling attack infrastructure along the border to prevent Hezbollah from launching attacks similar to those on October 7th on Israel’s northern communities.”
He emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to ensure the safety of civilians on both sides of the border. Austin also issued a warning to Iran, cautioning of “serious consequences” if it were to directly target Israel.
