The Romanian Parliament has approved President Klaus Iohannis’ request to establish a maritime training facility in Romania for Ukrainian personnel. This decision was made to enhance and diversify the training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in response to the ongoing conflict with Russia.
President Iohannis emphasized the need for Romania to support Ukraine by hosting a maritime training facility and providing training for the Ukrainian Marine Infantry. The facility will be operational for two years, with Romania having the option to withdraw its support at any time.
The United Kingdom will provide financial and planning assistance for the facility, which will also receive contributions from the international community. In September, the first group of Ukrainian pilots began training on F-16 fighter jets at Romania’s 86th Air Base.
This collaboration between Romania and Ukraine highlights the importance of international cooperation in strengthening defense capabilities and supporting allies in times of conflict. It is a significant step in the ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability in the region.
