North Korea denounces US nuclear deployment in South Korea

North Korea slammed the United States for deploying nuclear assets in South Korea, escalating tensions as Seoul prepared for an extraordinary military parade on Armed Forces Day. Kim Kang Il, North Korea’s vice defense minister, criticized Washington for its provocative moves, including sending a nuclear submarine and flying a B-1B bomber near the parade site. South Korea anticipated the bomber’s participation in the event, showcasing military strength alongside allied fighter jets.

Despite Seoul and US Forces Korea not confirming the bomber’s involvement, the parade aimed to demonstrate a strong deterrent against North Korea. The US show of force was condemned by Kim for exposing strategic vulnerabilities and exacerbating South Korea’s nuclear fears. He threatened to implement new action plans to enhance the country’s military capabilities.

Recent criticisms from Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister, emphasized the unease caused by the presence of a US nuclear submarine in Busan. The situation remains tense as North Korea continues to push back against perceived threats.
