Nepal Flood Survivors Criticize Government for Inadequate Relief Efforts
Survivors of the devastating monsoon floods in Nepal have spoken out against the government’s lack of effective relief efforts following a disaster that claimed the lives of at least 218 people. The floods, caused by intense rains, submerged entire neighborhoods in Kathmandu and remote villages in the Himalayan country.
Residents, like Mira KC in Kavre district, shared their frustration, stating that no aid had reached their village due to impassable roads. The floods disproportionately affected the poorest residents living along the riverbanks, such as Man Kumar Rana Magar, who criticized authorities for inadequate shelter and support.
Experts attribute the severity of the disaster to climate change, emphasizing the need for better preparedness and response measures. The Nepali weather bureau reported the heaviest rainfall in more than two decades, underscoring the growing impact of climate change on natural disasters in the region.
Despite the challenges, rescue efforts have managed to save over 4,000 people, highlighting the resilience and solidarity of communities in the face of adversity.
