Israeli forces have begun leveling farmlands in Sinjil, central West Bank, in preparation for the construction of a segregation wall. This wall will isolate Palestinian lands from a major intercity road, Highway 60, depriving landowners of access to around 8,000 dunams of land. The wall, planned by the Israeli government, will be 1,500 meters long and four meters high, impacting the livelihoods of around 200 Palestinian families who rely on orchards for income.
Despite protests and legal action taken by landowners, the construction of the wall in Area C will proceed as planned. This area in the West Bank is controlled entirely by Israel, where over 60% of the territory falls. The construction of this wall follows the building of a similar barrier along the Green Line boundary during the Second Intifada.
The international community condemns the construction of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, considering them illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention. With over 600,000 Israeli settlers in the region, tensions between Palestinians and Israeli forces continue to escalate, resulting in casualties and detentions.
