The far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) recently celebrated a major victory in Austria’s general election, capturing nearly 29% of the vote. This win has raised concerns among the Turkish community in Austria, who fear the party’s anti-immigrant and exclusionary policies.
Turkish citizens in Austria, like Muhammed Yuksek, voiced their worries about the FPO’s rise to power. Yuksek highlighted the party’s Nazi roots and its Islamophobic stance, which could further marginalize Turks and Muslims in the country.
The increase in right-wing voters to 55%, as noted by Turgay Taskiran, is alarming for immigrants, as it may embolden racist sentiments and lead to potential attacks.
Turkish business owner Kaddafi Kaya and shopkeeper Ibrahim Firat also expressed concerns about the far-right party’s impact on daily life and the marginalization of immigrant communities in Austria.
