Dispute Over Election Results in Abyei’s Rumamer County
The former chief of the Achak clan in Abyei’s Rumamer County, Monyluak Monyror, has rejected the results of an election where he lost to Nyuol Ayuel and accused the county commissioner, Auel Kiir, of manipulating the outcome. Monyror claims the problem began during the administration of Ayuel Kiir and Chief Administrator Chol Deng Alaak.
He criticized the suspension order issued by Commissioner Kiir and alleged physical assault by security personnel. Monyror also highlighted violations of the Local Government Act, stating he was not given a fair chance in the election process.
On the other hand, newly elected chief Nyuol Ayuel denied any wrongdoing, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him by the Achak clan. Meanwhile, Commissioner Kiir defended his actions, stating that the election was conducted legally, with only 4 votes going to Monyror out of 436 registered voters.
The dispute has led to legal action, with Monyror filing a case against Commissioner Kiir. Despite conflicting narratives, the local government minister has raised concerns over the handling of the situation. The court hearing is scheduled for 21 November, shedding light on the complexities surrounding the election in Rumamer County.
