China’s envoy in Washington warns against ‘strategic miscalculation’, pledges investment opportunities

China’s ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, has urged Washington to avoid “strategic miscalculation” in its dealings with Beijing. Speaking at a National Day reception in Washington, Xie warned that trade and tech restrictions imposed by the US could have negative consequences for both countries. He emphasized the importance of economic cooperation and suggested that US investments in China would benefit from the country’s ongoing economic reforms.

Xie also highlighted Taiwan as a key issue in US-China relations, calling it the “first and foremost redline.” Despite tensions, he assured that China would not interfere in US elections. Xie emphasized the importance of allowing the Chinese people to pursue economic development and a better quality of life, cautioning that a trade or tech war would harm both sides. He advocated for a policy of “building small yard, high fence” to avoid unnecessary conflict and protect mutual interests.
