Court Upholds 8-Year Sentence for Attempted Murder in Irbid
The Court of Cassation has affirmed a ruling sentencing a man to eight years in prison for attempting to murder a man in Irbid in December 2019. Initially, the Criminal Court had handed down a 12-year sentence with hard labor, but it was reduced to eight years after the victim dropped charges against the defendant.
The victim was attacked while trying to intervene in a street argument, resulting in three stab wounds to his back. Thanks to prompt medical attention, he survived the life-threatening injuries. The defendant contested the ruling, claiming errors in the investigation and contradictory witness statements, but the Court found the evidence, including DNA collected at the crime scene, to be consistent.
With judges Mohammad Ibrahim, Majid Azab, Hayel Amr, Ibrahim Abu Shamma, and Fawzi Nahar presiding, the Cassation Court concluded that the conviction and punishment were just. This case highlights the importance of swift legal action and thorough evidence-gathering for justice to prevail.
