Black olive oil producer seeks increased state support in production

From call centre worker to aspiring olive oil producer, Loyiso Manga’s journey is one of determination and passion. Despite facing challenges securing funding to buy a farm, he found a partner who supplies him with olive oil for his signature blend.

His brand is gaining popularity, with Woolworths stocking bottles of his olive oil. However, Manga hopes for more government support to grow his business for future generations.

“There are many like me who dream of accessing land,” Manga shared. “The market demand is evident, even without a warehouse or farm.”

The Western Cape’s climate is perfect for olive farming, yet it requires significant capital and patience, with trees taking years to yield a harvest. While the agriculture ministry allocates land to emerging farmers, the support for olive oil producers remains unclear.
