Major changes have been made to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), including officially banning certain claims.
The NDIS participants will no longer have access to services such as sex work, dating apps, concerts, reiki, crystal and cuddle therapy, and vapes.
The changes will take effect on October 3, providing clarity to Australians with disabilities after a long wait.
NDIS participants will have a one-year grace period to adjust to the changes, and administrators can waive mistaken claims under $1500.
Those currently using banned services will be allowed to continue until their NDIS plan expires.
Bill Shorten, the NDIS Minister, emphasized the importance of setting clear guidelines for service providers.
The government estimates that these changes will save taxpayers $14 billion over four years.
Shorten affirmed the exclusion of certain services under the NDIS to ensure sustainability and clear rules for participants.
