Jonglei Civil Society Network Urges Enhanced Safety Measures on Juba-Bor Road
The Chairperson of the Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN) and Executive Director of Intrepid South Sudan, Bol Deng Bol, has called on the Jonglei State government to assess the risk levels on the Juba-Bor Road and establish an early warning system to ensure the safety of travelers.
This appeal follows the recent ambush and firing upon the vehicle of Jonglei State Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Nyalella John Chuol, as she was traveling from Juba to Bor. The incident, which caused damage to the vehicle, has raised concerns about the security of the highway, previously considered safe for the past five months.
Bol Deng Bol strongly condemned the act and highlighted the vulnerability of not only high-level government officials but also common citizens and travelers on the highways. He emphasized the need for immediate action by the state government to assess risks and implement an early warning system to protect all road users.
The JCSN and Intrepid South Sudan are urging the government to prioritize citizen safety and prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Establishing an early warning system is seen as a critical step in reducing risks and safeguarding the lives of those traveling between Bor and Juba.
