In a recent interview, Ukrainian military leader Ghetman revealed that Russian forces have advanced to within three kilometers from various sides, creating a narrow passage susceptible to attack. Despite valiant efforts, holding this position is no longer feasible with overwhelming enemy forces. Ghetman emphasized that an organized retreat is crucial to minimize casualties and regroup effectively.
The situation in Vuhledar remains tense, with five Russian brigades closing in on the city defended solely by the 72nd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As the Ukrainian troops face superior numbers, Ghetman stressed the importance of strategic withdrawal to alternative positions for a more sustainable defense.
Although reluctantly retreating from their positions, Ghetman believes it is a necessary tactical decision to protect Ukrainian soldiers and regroup effectively. With mounting pressure from advancing Russian forces, staying in the city would only result in unnecessary casualties. The evacuation is expected to be orchestrated with minimal losses in the coming days.
