Uganda receives first batch of coated line pipes for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, signaling accelerated construction efforts in both Uganda and Tanzania. China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd (CPP) has started laying the pipeline in Uganda, aiming to export crude oil by next year. The project, under the Eacop Company, is being developed with a focus on safety, environmental sustainability, and local community engagement.
Civil works are progressing on the pumping stations, main camps, pipe yards, and storage facilities along the 1,443-kilometre pipeline. To mitigate climate change risks, renewable energy will be used for operations, with the Ugandan section to be fully carbon neutral. The project, estimated at $5 billion, involves shareholders from Uganda, Tanzania, TotalEnergies, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation. The completion of this project will be a significant milestone in enhancing energy infrastructure and economic development in the region.
